Darrel is a graduate of Winnipeg’s Gordon Bell Panthers High School Football program, he moved west to play Junior Football for the Surrey Rams in 1981 and also played for the Vancouver Meralomas and Richmond Raiders. He was a member of the Rams coaching staff from 1991 to 1993 and spent many hours working with Paul McCallum, who still refers to the time that they spent on the practice fields of Bear Creek Park as one of the things that helped him on the road to becoming a professional kicker.

Darrel returned to the Rams in 2011 as equipment manager and has been one of the hardest working volunteers on the football club since

Darrel has coached minor hockey in Surrey and minor football in Surrey, North Delta and Langley for many years, he was the Defensive Coordinator of the Langley Mustangs 2013 Provincial Championship Bantam team.

Darrel genuinely cares about Rams players and spends a lot of time into making sure that they are equipped well and look their best when representing the football club, he is highly respected by the players because of it and was presented with the Langley Rams inaugural Boa Trucking Award For Positivity in 2014

Darrel is a long time employee of CN Rail who raised two children as a single father, Kimberlee is a world class cheer team specialist and Justin is a multiple sport star who signed to play with the Rams in 2017.
