Offensive Player of the game #83 Liam Stewart

The Langley Rams captured their second consecutive Cullen Cup BCFC Championship with a 35-12 home victory over Langford’s Westshore Rebels in front of 1300 junior football fans at the Township of Langley’s McLeod Athletic Park Stadium on Saturday.

The Rams came into the game with the top running game in the conference but came out of the gate throwing with Colby Peters at the helm.

Peters completed six straight passes, including a 34 yard strike to game MVP Liam Stewart, on a drive that took them to the one yard line and then took it in himself from there to give the Rams a 7-0 lead with five minutes remaining in the opening frame.

The Rebels, with former Rams player Shawn Lall behind center, responded by taking the ball to the Rams 21 yard line but were stopped there by the Rams defense and a 28 yard field goal attempt by Will Hughes sailed wide to keep the score 7-0 Rams after one quarter.

A big punt by Rams kicker Jayden Sheilan put the Rebels on their own six yard line, they went two and out from there and then conceded a safety touch-back to give the Rams a 9-0 lead with 8:21 remaining in the half.

The Rams special teams had a strong outing but a mishandled punt snap gave the ball to the Rebels at the Rams 33 yard line, a pair of Rams penalties put the Rebels on the Rams six yard line, on the next play Lall hit Hughes with a six yard touchdown pass and the teams went into the break with the Rams leading 9-7.

A 27 yard field goal gave the Rebels a 10-9 lead early in the third, the Rams made a quarterback change and came back with a touchdown drive orchestrated by Tristan Secord-Yanciw, who hit Khalik Johnson with a six yard touchdown pass to give the Rams a 15-10 lead with four minutes remaining in the third.

A 40 yard pass to Stewart set up Secord-Yanciw’s one yard plunge to give the Rams a 21-10 lead five minutes into the final quarter.

The Rams gave up a safety to make the score 28-12 and then some strong running by Maximillian Joseph set up a Secord-Yanciw six yard touchdown run to give the Rams a 28-10 lead with five minutes to go in the game, a 20 yard touchdown run by Joseph made the score 35-12 with two minutes to go and the Rams celebrated their back to back Cullen Cup wins with a 35-12 win.

Kyle Clarot was named the defensive player of the game, the BCFC Defensive Player of the year came up with the play of the year by chasing dowm Bryson Mayho and stripping him of the ball at the one yard line.
